Oskaloosa–The Statesmen men’s track and field team collected numerous event wins as it hosted the Statesmen Relays Saturday.

Of the 20 contested events, William Penn squad members topped the field on 12 occasions.

Derek Seddon (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) was a two-time champion, taking the discus at 158-2 and the hammer at 155-0.

Five other field athletes won titles, including Kalob Gist (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) in the shot put (47-5.25) and Van Love-Scott (Sr., Detroit, Mich., Education) in the javelin (145-5).

Long jumper Jaylin Thomas (So., Baton Rouge, La., Biology) went a distance of 21-11 for his event win, while triple jumper Joshua Rankin So., University Park, Ill., Sociology) was first at 41-6.5. Robert Woodle (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Sociology) pole vaulted to a height of 8-6.25.

Neiman Thompson (Jr., Rockville, Md., Physical Education) was first in the 400-meter dash in 48.76 seconds, and Payton Busch (So., Centerville, Iowa, Secondary Education) and his 2:00.27 finishing time topped the 800-meter run field.

Yonas Desta (So., Salt Lake City, Utah, Biology) won the 1,500-meter run race in 4:19.15 and Markenson Charles (So., Lehigh Acres, Fla., Industrial Technology) took the 110-meter hurdle crown in 16.93 seconds. The 4×400-meter relay team won its event in a time of 3:36.56.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Indianola next Friday and Saturday to compete in the Simpson Kip Janvrin Open.
