Marvin Cary, 63, of University Park, and formerly of Ottumwa, passed away Saturday evening, April 18, 2015, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

Marvin L. Cary, son of Edgar Ernest and Edna June (Myers) Cary, was born December 3, 1951, in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Marvin attended Ottumwa schools and at age 19 he entered the U.S. Navy. Of the almost four years he served, Marvin spent more than three years overseas and was awarded the National Defensed Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and the Navy Unit Commendation. He was discharged February 13, 1975.

Marvin lived in California for many years before returning to Iowa and settling in Sigourney. He worked in construction, working as a roofer for many years.

Marvin enjoyed researching his genealogy and will be remembered as a good and faithful brother.

He is survived by his brother, Charles Cary of Ottumwa.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by two sisters: Carolyn Stilley and Sandy Dage; and an infant brother, John.

Graveside memorial services for Marvin will be held Tuesday afternoon, April 21, 2015, at 2 p.m., at Shaul Cemetery near Ottumwa; Pastor Andy Baker of the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa will officiate.
As was his wish, his body has been cremated.
Military Honors will be conducted by the Ottumwa Honor Guard.
