Norman Brooks, 63, of Morganton, NC and formerly of Oskaloosa passed away, Tuesday, September 15, 2009, in Morganton, NC. Norman Albert Brooks, son of Albert and Evangeline “Vangie” Slycord Brooks, was born September 26, 1945, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Norman was a 1963 graduate of Oskaloosa Senior High School and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in Viet Nam. Norman graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and Florida International Culinary Arts Program.

In 2009, he was appointed to Cambridge Who’s Who among Executives and Professionals. Norman was the Director of Food Services for J. Iverson Riddle Development Center in Morganton, NC and U.N.C. Hospital Chapel Hill, North Carolina for the last 15 years of his life.

At the time of his death Norman’s family included: his mother, Evangeline Slycord of Oskaloosa; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Donald (& Anne) Brooks of Fremont, Paul (& Carolyn) Brooks of Muscatine, and Richard Brooks of Oskaloosa; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (& Joseph) Fletcher of Oskaloosa; and six nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glen & Beulah Witt; Uncle Vernie and Aunt Francis Nance; and a nephew, Kelly Brooks.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel for Norman; his brother, Richard Brooks; and his mother, Evangeline Slycord. The family will be present from 2-4 p.m. to greet visitors.
Burial of their cremated remains will be held privately at Forest Cemetery.
