Midwest Regional Swim Meet

The Mahaska County YMCA sent 16 swimmers to the University of Minnesota to compete at the Midwest Regional Swim meet. This swim meet was opened up to 12 states to send their best swimmers to the meet to compete in a 2 day time period with morning and evening sessions taking place in 2 different pools at the same time. There were hundreds of competitors there at all times and the environment is like no other as the emotion and intensity levels are at a high level all day long. Janet Reece, Grant Bolibaugh, and Wade Bolibaugh, the 3 coaches for Osky, had their hands full working with the swimmers getting them warmed-up and mentally ready for all of their events, and making sure that they were on the blocks ready to swim when the time came. Some of the swimmers went to swim in 1 event and others were swimming in as many as 8 different events during the swim meet. There were many personal bests and 20 Oskaloosa YMCA Regional Records were broken during the meet. The team was ready to compete and it was a great weekend for the swimmers, parents, and coaches to end the season on. While some were ready for the long swim season that started in October to come to an end, some of the swimmers are already missing swim team practice.
