Indianola–The William Penn men’s golf team continued its spring season by competing at the Simpson Invitational Wednesday.

The Statesmen placed third out of nine teams with a 324 at the-par 71 Indianola Country Club. Host Simpson won the event at 305.

Simpson’s Andy Hutchins was the tournament medalist at even-par 71, while Gareth Sargent (Fr., Knysna, South Africa, Psychology) shot a 77 to lead WPU in fourth place (out of 54 players).

Spencer Skipper (Jr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management) was next, tying for fifth with a 78.

Justin Bothma (Fr., Boksburg, South Africa, Business Management) carded an 83 to tie for 21st, while Frederik Lundsgaard (Fr., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) had an 86 in a tie for 33rd. Byron Lindeque (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, General Accounting) rounded out the varsity scoring with an 87 for a tie for 39th.

Kyle Hashimoto (So., Acampo, Calif., Undecided) headlined the JV team’s efforts as the ‘Blue’ squad was second with a 323. Hashimoto tied for seventh at 79.

Cade Hartman (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev., Business Management) and Clay Tucker (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) tied for 10th at 81, while Ethan Powers (Jr., Tipton, Iowa, Business Management) had an 82 to tie for 15th. Jeremy White (So., Baytown, Texas, Mechanical Engineering) finished with an 84 for a tie for 25th.

Individuals Charlie Hayes (So., Whitesboro, Texas, History/Government) (T-15th, 82), Rory Schafer (Fr., Solwezi, Zambia, Mechanical Engineering) (47th, 91), and Terence Schafer (Jr., Solwezi, Zambia, Industrial Technology) (48th, 92) also competed Wednesday.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Fort Madison next Monday to compete in the Iowa Wesleyan Classic. Play will be contested at Sheaffer Golf Course.
