Ada Fisher, 92, of Oskaloosa passed away early Thursday morning, March 26, 2014, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa.
Ada Mae Fisher, daughter of Albert and Alice (Cavanaugh) Brown, was born, May 8, 1922, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Ada married Roy Eugene Farmer, June 21, 1942, in Missouri and they made their home in Marshalltown. Roy was drafted into the U.S. Navy and was killed, June 20, 1945, when his ship was attacked off the coast of Normandy, France. Following Roy’s death, Ada and her son, Gerald, returned to Oskaloosa to live with her sister, Lucille.

On a blind date, Ada met Eldie Lee “Pat” Fisher and the couple married on December 15, 1946. Ada and Pat made their home in Oskaloosa. Pat passed away October 19, 1984.

While her children were young, Ada was a stay-at-home mom. She later went to work as a nursing assistant and a cook in area nursing homes and then as a cook at Kool’s Apartments.

Ada was a member of Saint James Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir and helped with the church’s pancake days and rummage sales. She enjoyed camping when she was able and as she got older she enjoyed car rides.

Her family includes a son, Gerald (& Amuway) Farmer of Bangkok, Thailand; three daughters: Colleen Sherwood, Karen Fisher and Susan (& Allen) Chilcote, all of Oskaloosa; 12 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Shaffer of Beacon.

In addition to both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Brown; and a sister-in-law, Mary Chilcote.

Funeral services for Ada will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at St. James Episcopal Church, with Reverend Terry Kleven officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Monday at the Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, with the family being present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Services Serenity House.
