Eugene Mann, 83 of Malcom, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, March 20, 2015 surrounded by his family at his home. Alvin Eugene Mann, the son of Alvin and Addie (Sanders) Mann, was born on September 8, 1931 in Malcom, Iowa.

Eugene attended Pleasant #2 Country School before attending and graduating from Montezuma High School with the class of 1949. On October 6, 1951, Eugene was united in marriage to Mary Lou Fisk at the Montezuma Methodist Church. To this union five children were born: Vickie, David, Nancy, John and Mark.

Eugene was born a farmer. He began farming with his father when he was a young boy and eventually had the opportunity to farm with his son, John, on the Mann Century Farm near Malcom. During his time farming, Eugene gave farm tours to school groups, church groups or anyone interested in learning how a farm operated. In 1988, Eugene helped Mary Lou open the Pleasant Country Bed and Breakfast at their home near Malcom, which they operated for 26 years.

Eugene absolutely loved his family and spending time on the farm. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

Eugene was a member of the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Montezuma where he served on several boards. He was a member of Farm Bureau, the Pork and Beef Producers, and the Lions Club. Eugene was a 50 year member of the Poweshiek Masonic Lodge #174, served as Worshipful Master of Lily Lodge #254 in 1963 and 1964, and was a 50 year member of Holly Chapter #477 Order of the Eastern Star. Eugene served as Grand Sentinel of the Grand Chapter of Iowa Order of the Eastern Star in 2005. He was formerly a member of Kaaba Shrine in Davenport and was currently a member of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Altoona. Eugene was a Pleasant Township Trustee and was on the FSA (Farm Service Association) County Committee. He served on the Federal Land Bank Board, the Malcom Co-op Board, and was a Board member for the Montezuma Community School. He was also a 4-H Leader for several years.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou Mann of Malcom; four children: Vickie Hopkins of Troy, Missouri, Nancy (& Glenn) Carper of Mason City, Iowa, John (& Robin) Mann of Malcom, Iowa and Mark Mann of Buffalo, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren: Bradley (& Tiffany) Hopkins, Casey (& Holly) Hopkins, Niki (& Zach) Stuart, Jessica (& Skyler) Nesheim, Clayton (& Cristy Tlusty) Carper, Nathan Carper, Matthew (& Megan) Mann, Adam (& Lyndie) Mann, Briana Mann, Austin Mann, Connor Mann and Dawson Mann; nine great grandchildren: Elsie and Amos Hopkins, Landry, Reese and Bella Hopkins, Payton and Makenzie Stuart, Miles Nesheim and Mason Carper; a sister, Marjorie McBride of Topeka, Kansas; sister-in-law, Sherrill (& Ray) Anderson of Eldora; and brother-in-law, Jim Fisk of Montezuma; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Mann; a grandson, Luke Mann; a brother-in-law, Ralph McBride; and a sister-in-law, Donna Fisk.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church with the family present from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma First Presbyterian Evangelical Church or the Grinnell Regional Hospice.
