Arie Ringelestein, 95, of Fremont died Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Oskaloosa Care Center, where he was a resident since January 13, 2015. He was born July 30, 1919, on a farm north of Albia, Iowa, the son of John and Elizabeth Van Weelden Van Ringelestein.

Ariel made his profession of faith at a young age. Following school Arie worked on the family farm. On November 25, 1942, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Groenenboom at Lancaster, Missouri.

Following their marriage they moved to a farm south of Oskaloosa. In 1953, they rented and moved to a farm near Fremont. In 1966, they bought the farm where they live now. In 1979, their son Keith took over the day-to-day operation of the farm.

In 1984, Arie was elected to the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors, where he served for 8 years. In 1958, the family joined the Cedar Christian Reformed Church where he served as an elder and deacon and on several committees. He was past president of the Mahaska County Historical Society. He was also a member of noon Kiwanis from 1983-2010, Farm Bureau, Gideon’s International and the 60 plus in Fremont.

He was also involved in 4-H with his children. Arie always enjoyed being on the farm and gardening.

His family includes his wife of over 72 years, Carolyn Ringelestein of Fremont; four children: John William (& Judy) Ringelestein of Ames, Nancy Beth (& Lee) Veldhuizen of Pella, Keith Alan Ringelestein of Fremont, and Carroll Dean (& Marlene) Ringelestein of Mt. Zion, Illinois; eight grandchildren: Donald Arie (& Lisa) Ringelestein, Lisa Marie (& John) Cardinell, Daniel Lee (& Anita) Veldhuizen, Lori Kaye (& Brad) Van Kooten, Amy Lynn (& Russ) Van Wyk, Paul Adam (& Jessica) Ringelestein, Katie Ann (& Ramnarine) Rambhajan, and Joseph Aaron Ringelestein; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William Ringelestein and Abraham Van Ringelestein; and six sisters: Delia Fynaardt, Jennie Fynaardt, Jennetta Kaldenberg, Angeline Van Steenis, Anne De Kock, and, in infancy, Elizabeth Van Ringelestein.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. in the Cedar Christian Reformed Church in Cedar with Reverend Josh Van Engen officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. in the basement of the church.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday morning after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Cedar Christian Reformed Church or to Gideon’s International.
