Lowell McClure, 85 of Grinnell passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at his home at Windsor Manor in Grinnell. Lowell Thomas McClure, the son of Everett and Sarah (Carr) McClure, was born on November 29, 1929 in Mahaska County.

Lowell graduated from Barnes City High School with the class of 1946. On March 10, 1948, Lowell was united in marriage to Rosalie Schultze at the First Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa. To this union five children were born, Deborah, Beth, Thomas, Mark and Steve.

Lowell farmed in the Barnes City and Searsboro areas before purchasing a farm north of Deep River in 1963, retiring in 1980. Lowell stayed busy working as a custodian at Grinnell College, did custom paint work, custom tiling and was a substitute mail carrier and bus driver.

Following his retirement, Lowell and Rosalie moved to Montezuma and wintered in Arizona for many years. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, playing pool, playing cards and spending time with his family. Lowell also loved to fish and enjoying his fishing trips to Minnesota.

He was a member of the Grinnell Presbyterian Church and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.

His memory is honored by his five children: Deborah (& Dan) Rieder of Guernsey, Beth Schwertfeger of Winterset, Tom (& Patti) McClure of Williamsburg, Mark (& Carol) McClure of Indianola and Steve McClure of Grinnell; ten grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Sarah McClure; his wife, Rosalie on November 12, 2008; a great grandson, Kade Rieder; a son-in-law, Jerry Schwertfeger; and three siblings: Jean Robinette, Edward McClure and Mary Margaret Haworth.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grinnell, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church.
Burial will be held at the Barnes City Cemetery around 1:30 pm following the luncheon.
Visitation will also be held Friday evening, March 20, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Masonic service beginning at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grinnell First Presbyterian Church.
