Four Grapplers Named Scholar-Athletes

Oskaloosa–Four William Penn wrestlers were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2014-2015 Daktronics-NAIA Wrestling Scholar-Athletes Friday.

Kyle Soderblom (Sr., Newton, Iowa, Biology) topped the quartet, claiming his second honor with a 3.70 Grade Point Average.

Jay Fresh (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Sociology) was next with a 3.68 GPA, while Lane Colwell (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Computer Science) had a 3.56 GPA entering this spring. Skip Conner (So., Madison Heights, Mich., Sociology & Human Services) picked up the honor as well with a 3.51 GPA. All three are first-time honorees.

WPU tied for the second-largest number of Scholar-Athletes, while Great Falls (Mont.) had the most at six.

To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least junior academic standing, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full academic year.
