PELLA—Central College women’s basketball guard Kenzie Vander Molen (senior, Pella) has received the 2015 Gary Dirksen Achievement Award.

Vander Molen, a four-time letterwinner and Pella High School graduate, helped the Dutch to double-digit wins for the third straight year. She was named second-team all-Iowa Conference in 2014-15, her second all-conference selection.

The starting point guard when healthy, Vander Molen played in 19 of the team’s 25 games. Her 10.1 points per game was second best on the team as she shot 39.0 percent from the field. She also contributed 3.3 assists and rebounds per game. She scored a season-high 24 points in a 74-70 win over Loras on February 18.

“Kenzie had a phenomenal career in a Dutch uniform, but she was equally committed to areas outside of basketball,” coach Chelsea Petersen said. “During her time at Central, Kenzie participated in several community service initiatives, completed multiple internships, and was passionate about her area of study. She set an example of excellence both on and off the court and she is a very deserving recipient of this award.”

Named for a Central graduate, long-time college administrator and ardent supporter of Dutch Athletics, the Gary Dirksen Achievement Award is presented to a player who strives to achieve at a high level on and off the court. Consideration is given to the player’s academic efforts, as well as attempts to serve in leadership roles on campus and through community involvement.

The Dutch finished the season 10-15 overall. Nine letterwinners are slated to return for the 2014-15 season.
