Harry Edwin Davis, 90, of Oskaloosa died Thursday, March 5, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born February 9, 1925, in Eddyville, Iowa, the son of Jay and Martha Newenhouse Davis.

Harry graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1943. Following graduation he served in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on May 16, 1946.

Harry returned to Eddyville and went to work on the family farm. On September 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mollie Kosmach at the Baptist Church in Newton, Iowa. Mollie died on April 29, 1994.

Harry and Mollie owned and operated the Davis family farm throughout their life. In 1966, he went to work as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring from there in 1985. He continued to farm while he worked for the post office. In 2004, Harry left the farm and moved into Oskaloosa.

Harry enjoyed collecting toy trains and tractors, and gardening and canning with Mollie. He enjoyed being outdoors.

He was a member of the St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ in Oskaloosa, the Eddyville American Legion, and the National Rural Letter Carrier’s Association. He delighted in spending time with his family.

His family includes his three children and their spouses, Janet (& Larry) Lee of Keosauqua, Linda (& Chuck) McDonough of Oskaloosa, and Gary (& Sandy) Davis of Eddyville; eight grandchildren: Shelly Lee, Kathryn Lee, Curtis McDonough, Brian McDonough, Lynnette McDonough, Cody Davis, Robbie Davis and Malea Trainer; 12 great grandchildren, including one great granddaughter born March 5, 2015; and a brother, Ernie Davis of Eddyville.

Besides his wife, Harry was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Ben Davis, Neil Davis, Sam Davis and Jack Davis; and two sisters, Nellie Davis and Catherine DeLong.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ in Oskaloosa with Reverend Liz Colton officiating.
Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery at Eddyville.
Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa and Eddyville Honor Guards. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Monday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Eddyville American Legion, St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ or MHP Hospice Serenity House.
