Sallie West, 45, of Oskaloosa died February 27, 2015, in Des Moines. She was born May 25, 1969, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Gregory and Debbie Gaskill West.

Sallie attended Indian Hills Community College and William Penn University. On May 6, 1994, she was united in marriage to Mark Emehiser, in Fairfield, Iowa; they later divorced.

Sallie worked as a cook at many restaurants in Oskaloosa. She also worked as a cook at William Penn University. For the past 10 years she worked alongside her significant other Terry Crew at Century Lawn Care in Oskaloosa. During tax season she worked in the office of Boyle and Henderson in Oskaloosa. In November she started working at U.P.S. in Oskaloosa.

She enjoyed cooking, shopping and taking trips to the Lake of the Ozarks with Terry. She had a kind spirit and enjoyed doing what she could to help people have a great day. She recently became a distributor for Omnitrition in Oskaloosa, she was very excited about the opportunity to help people through this company. She delighted in spending time with her family.

Her family includes her three children: Dustin (& Jessica) West of Ankeny, Heather Emehiser of Oskaloosa and Bethany Emehiser of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Faith, Coen and Haiden West, Axton Johnson and Zaiden Clark; her mother and step father, Debbie (& Keith) VerSteegh of Des Moines; her father and step mother, Gregory (& Linda) West of South Carolina; her significant other, Terry Crew; Terry’s two daughters: Calli Crew of Des Moines and Jennifer (& Chad) Albaugh of Arkansas, and their children: Chase, Emma and Abby Albaugh; her brother, Dennis (& Diana) West of Montana; two sisters: Sarah (& Eric) South of Des Moines and Cydney West of South Carolina; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Visitation will begin Thursday, March 5, 2015, after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel. The family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
A private funeral ceremony will be held at a later date.
As was Sallie’s wish, her body will be cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Burial of the urn will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Memorials may be made to the family.
