Oskaloosa, Iowa – Coming into Tuesday night’s last regular season game against Chariton, there was hope that the Osky boys may be able to sneak into Chariton and steal a win in a non-conference action. What they received was a huge dose of the two-headed monster in juniors TJ Hockenson and his running mate Derek Laing. They combined for 50 points, which was more than enough as the Chargers ran away with a 78-49 victory.

One positive note was the Indians did have the lead with a 12ft. jumper by junior Wade Votrobek, putting Osky up 2-0. It was all downhill after that, as Laing and Hockenson took over and showed why they are both all state players. Oskaloosa was, how you say it, in foul trouble of the questionable style. Osky was finding success in the first half as they were feeding Votroubek on the inside, but there was just too much of the Charger duo to overcome as Osky trailed at the half 40-20.

It was more of the same in the second half as senior Ryan Rieter, sophomore Jack Moore, junior Wade Votroubek and senior Ki-Jana Dejong all tried to put a dent into the Charger lead. It would be for not on this night, as Osky fell to Chariton 78-49.

Oskaloosa was led by Rieter and Votroubek with 12 points each, DeJong with 7 points and Moore with 6. Oskaloosa finishes the regular season with a 6-15 record and will look to try to shock the world next Monday night, as they travel to Pella to take on the #1 ranked Little Dutch in the first round of the playoffs. Oskaloosa is coming off of a big loss to the Little Dutch, so Coach Parker and the team will have to get after it if they hope to slow down the potent offense of Pella. Taking care of the basketball will be the main thing, as Osky had 30 turnovers against the suffocating pressure defense of the Little Dutch.
