Men 23rd in Third Ranking

Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s indoor track and field squad remains a top-25 program as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its third ranking today.

WPU fell two rungs to #23 with 58.59 points as national qualifiers Alex Edwards (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Elementary Education) and Cornelius McCastle (So., McKinney, Texas, Industrial Technology) lead the way.

Edwards is good for 34.76 points in the 600, 800, and 1,000-meter runs, while McCastle has 15.91 points to his credit in the high and triple jumps. Edwards ranks in the top ten nationally in all three events, while McCastle is fifth in the high jump.

Romel Marzette (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) has picked up 3.98 points in the triple jump, long jump, and 60-meter dash, while thrower Derek Seddon (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) has managed 3.78 points in the weight throw and shot put.

The 4×400-meter relay team is also garnering 0.17 points.

The top five remains unchanged with Indiana Tech still first with 482.94, while Doane (Neb.) is a distant second. Wayland Baptist (Texas), Concordia (Neb.), and Oklahoma Baptist round out the top five.

St. Ambrose is the Midwest Collegiate Conference’s next team, ranking #27 with 52.31 points.

The Statesmen women are also ranked in the top 100, moving up to #78 with 1.61 points. Meaghan Foster (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Undecided) has claimed 0.93 points in the shot put and weight throw, while Raveen Rhone (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif., Biology) and Tarah Alexander (Jr., Cedar, Iowa, Physical Education) have joined her this week. Rhone has 0.59 points in the triple jump, while Alexander has 0.08 in the 800-meter run.

Indiana Tech leads the women’s rankings with 464.61 points, while Doane (Neb.), Wayland Baptist (Texas), Oklahoma Baptist, and Cornerstone (Mich.) finish off the top five.

Grand View is topping the MCC in 28th with 46.99 points.

William Penn will fight for league hardware Friday and Saturday as it competes at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships in Sterling, Ill.
