Albert Van Kooten, 95, of Greenwood, Arkansas and formerly of Pella and Oskaloosa, went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, February 7, 2015, while being cared for at Mercy Hospice in Fort Smith Arkansas. He was born January 4, 1920, in Tracy, Iowa, the son of Henry and Cornelia Schut Van Kooten.
In 1936, the family moved to a farm northwest of Oskaloosa. In 1941, Albert took over operation of the family farm. He continued to farm the family farm until he retired and moved to Oskaloosa in 1985.
On February 3, 1961, Albert was united in marriage to Marie Vande Kieft, Marie died November 28, 1998. He then moved to Greenwood, Arkansas to be near his family.
Albert was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.
Albert is survived by his son, Bryce (& Sheila) Van Kooten of Greenwood, Arkansas; his daughter Kathleen Susan Jackson (& husband, Terry McCleary) of Fort Smith, Arkansas; a sister, Pauline Terpstra of Pella; grand-daughter, Anita Kay Van Kooten of Omaha, Nebraska; grand-daughter, Kobi Jo (& James) Redman of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandson, Chad (& Tracy) Van Kooten of Fort Smith, Arkansas; grandson, Quinton Van Kooten of Georgia; grandson, Wesley (& Angie) Van Kooten of Omaha, Nebraska; grandson, Trey (& Audra) Jackson of Fort Smith, Arkansas; sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hendrik and Cornelia Van Kooten; his wife, Marie Van Kooten; a son, Allan Van Kooten; one grandson; and a total of sixteen brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at First Christian Reformed Church, Oskaloosa, Iowa, with Reverend Dale Visser officiating.
A family prayer service will be at 12:45 Saturday afternoon in the fellowship hall of the church.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be held from 11:00 am Saturday morning until 12:45 Saturday afternoon.
Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Christian Grade School or to the Back to God Hour.
