WPU Men 21st in USTFCCCA Computer Ranking
Oskaloosa–The William Penn indoor men’s track and field team is having one of its best seasons ever and a national computer ranking is confirming that.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has the Statesmen men ranked 21st in this week’s computer rating. Numerous factors determine a team’s positioning, including scoring points in an event.
The navy and gold currently have 65.77 points for what is believed to be their highest ranking ever.
National qualifiers Alex Edwards (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Secondary Education) and Cornelius McCastle (So., McKinney, Texas, Industrial Technology) are pacing the Statesmen as both currently have secured double-digit points.
Edwards is good for 37.25 points in the 600, 800, and 1,000-meter runs, while McCastle has 16.02 points to his credit in the high and triple jumps. Edwards ranks in the top ten nationally in all three events, while McCastle is fifth in the high jump.
Romel Marzette (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) has also been strong in multiple venues, earning 5.84 points in the triple jump, long jump, and 60-meter dash. Fellow sprinter CJ Watts (Jr., Rockville, Md.) has picked up 0.03 points in the 400-meter dash, while the 4×400-meter relay team has 0.35 points for WPU.
Throwers Derek Seddon (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education), with 6.25 points in the weight throw and shot put, and Kalob Gist (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management), with 0.02 points in the shot put, are point-earners this winter as well.
Indiana Tech is first with 465.02, while Doane (Neb.) is a distant second with 292.82 points. Wayland Baptist (Texas) (290.21), Concordia (Neb.) (216.71), and Oklahoma Baptist (193.90) round out the top five.
St. Ambrose is the next-best team from the Midwest Collegiate Conference, ranking #27 with 52.59 points.
The women’s squad is also ranked in the top 100, holding at #80 with 1.05 points. Meaghan Foster (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Undecided) has done all of the work thus far with 0.59 points in the shot put and 0.45 points in the weight throw.
Indiana Tech leads the women’s rankings with 500.95 points, while Doane (Neb.), Oklahoma Baptist, Wayland Baptist, and Cornerstone (Mich.) finish off the top five.
Grand View is topping the MCC in 25th with 50.28 points.
