Le Mars–Headlined by two finalists, the William Penn wrestling team had plenty to be happy with as it competed at the Briar Cliff Open Saturday.

141-pounder Scottie Bonds (So., Chicago, Ill., Physical Education) and 174-pounder Ishmael Rempson (Sr., Olympia Fields, Ill., Industrial Technology) each made the championship match at their respective weights, but came up just shy of the title.

Both grapplers finished 3-1 on the day with Bonds claiming a fall and Rempson picking up one major decision victory.

Johnny Hopper (Fr., Basehor, Kan., Psychology) also finished as a placer, wrapping up the event fourth at 165 pounds with a 3-2 record (one major decision).

Three more Statesmen were just one win from fighting for third. 125-pounder Khalil Williams (Fr., Decatur, Ga., Physical Education) was 2-2 (one fall), while 141-pounder Adam Habeil (So., Mulberry, Fla., Physical Education) was 3-2 (two falls). Kyle Soderblom (Sr., Newton, Iowa, Biology) was also 2-2 with two pins at 197.

Three victories were produced by 141-pounder Angelo Kelly (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Physical Education) (one fall) as well as 149-pounders Marshawn Lacy (Sr., Chicago Heights, Ill., Computer Science) (one fall) and Brad Watson (Jr., Rolla, Mo., Physical Education) (two technical falls and one major decision).

Four additional wrestlers also had two wins apiece. Leading that charge was Lane Colwell (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Computer Science), who had one technical fall and one major decision at 149. 125-pounder Jeremy Andujar (Fr., Tampa, Fla., Biology) and 141-pounder Bryan Pittman (Sr., Flossmoor, Ill., Information Technology) both pinned one opponent, and 157-pounder Jeremy Walters (Jr., University Park, Ill., Exercise Science) notched a technical fall.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Hannibal, Mo. next Thursday to face Hannibal-LaGrange for its final dual meet of the year. Action begins at 7 p.m.
