Cedar Rapids–Dezarea Duckworth (Fr., Bryant, Ark., Exercise Science) poured in 18 points off the bench, but the Statesmen women’s basketball team was cold from the floor in a 76-58 Midwest Collegiate Conference loss Saturday.

The freshman was 7-for-10 from the floor en route to 18 points, but William Penn (10-15, 3-6 MCC) was outshot 42.4%-30.3%.

The visitors were tight early, leading for the last time at 21-20. Unfortunately, the Mustangs (14-12, 5-3 MCC) went on a 17-4 run to lead by 12 at halftime.

The Statesmen only managed to narrow the margin to nine in the opening minutes of the second stanza in a game that saw Mount Mercy hold a 46-37 rebounding advantage.

Duckworth hit four of WPU’s eight three-pointers (MMU had just six), but the hosts had a 20-10 edge in free throws.

Jessie Kreuser (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn., Physical Education) was also in double figures with 12 points in addition to four blocks. Janay Pritchett (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Biology) tallied eight points, while Kadejah Young (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn., Physical Education) posted an all-around effort with seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Clinton next Wednesday to face Ashford in non-conference play at 7 p.m.
