Gov. Terry Branstad orders flags to fly at half-staff from Friday at 5 p.m. until Monday at 8 a.m. in honor of Michael Cooper

Centerville Assistant Fire Chief killed in the line of duty last Saturday

(DES MOINES) – Gov. Terry E. Branstad has ordered all flags in Iowa be flown at half-staff from Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at 5 p.m., until Monday, Feb. 9, 2015 at 8 a.m., in honor of Centerville Assistant Fire Chief Michael Cooper, who was killed in the line of duty serving in the Centerville, Iowa, Fire Department on Saturday, January 31, 2015.

The governor’s directive applies to all U.S. and state flags under control of the State of Iowa.

Flags will be at half-staff on the state Capitol building and on flag displays in the Capitol complex, and upon all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.

A funeral service for Assistant Fire Chief Cooper, 62, will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville. A visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, from 4-8 p.m., at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville.
