Indians Show Well At Ottumwa Meet

The Oskaloosa Indians went to Ottumwa to take on the Bulldogs in the final regular season meet. The boys have been working hard and came away with 11 personal best times during the meet on their way to scoring 50 points on the night.

The Indians started the night off with the Medley Relay team of Jack Miller, Kamron VanHulzen, Connor Swim, and David Anderson swimming a 2:05.27 and the team of Sam Carmichael, John Hammes, Colton Berg, and Ben Boston swimming a 2:28.86. Then came Ean Beenken swimming the 200 yard Free in a time of 2:24.65. The next event was the 200 IM and Jack Miller took first place swimming a 2:25.85. The 4th race was the 50 Freestyle and it was swam by David Anderson(25.78), Kamron VanHulzen(29.30), Ben Boston(29.95), Colton Berg(31.76), Wyatt Teeter(32.85) and Sam Carmichael(36.23).

After a short break where the Ottumwa Seniors were recognized the Indians sent Connor Swim to compete in the 100 Fly and he swam a 1:09.10 for the Indians. Next up was the 100 Free and 3 out of the 4 Osky swimmers had personal best times with David Anderson(1:01.46), Ean Beenken(1:02.96), Ben Boston(1:08.68), and Colton Berg(1:11.17). Next up was the 500 Free which is the longest grueling race and John Hammes stepped up and put in a personal best time of 6:35.50. The final relay for the Indians was the 200 Freestyle Relay and Osky went hard and took first place in it as well with the group of David Anderson, Ean Beenken, Connor Swim and Jack Miller swimming a 1:46.12, for a team best record and the team of Kamron VanHulzen, Wyatt Teeter, Colton Berg, and Ben Boston swam a personal best of 2:04.67.

After another short break came the last set of events with the 100 Yard Backstroke leading them off as Jack Miller swam a 1:08.60, John Hammes a 1:16.70, and Sam Carmichael a 1:43.71.

The final event of the night was the 100 Breaststroke as Connor Swim led the team with a 1:26.86 and Wyatt Teeter jumped in for the first time in this event and swam a 1:39.82 to finish off the meet for the Indians.

The Indians will have their conference meet next Saturday at Luther College as they go to compete against Decorah, Boone, Grinnell, and Newton/Pella.

Their last meet will be in Johnston the following weekend when they go to see if any of the swimmers can qualify for the Iowa State Swim Meet.
