Fairview Heights, Ill.–The WPU women’s bowling team nearly got into the battle for the crown at the McKendree Baker Challenge Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn placed ninth out of 13 teams with 6,776 pins in ten Baker sets, finishing only 112 pins from qualifying for bracket play. Wichita State (Kan.) led qualifying with 7,753 pins, but #5 seed Lindenwood (Mo.) took the title with upsets over the #4, #1, and #2 seeds.

WPU’s Baker crew consisted of Stephanie Adams (So., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management), MacKenzie Boyd (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Biology), Emily Braga (Jr., Newton, Iowa, Communications), Audra Farley (Fr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Education,), Kelsey Johnson (Sr., Montgomery, Ill., Secondary Education), Cybil Lennie (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Undecided), Briell Newberry (Fr., Holland, Mich., Education), and Montana Pence (So., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education).

Next Up: William Penn is off a few weeks until returning to action on February 14-15 at the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis, Ind.
