Richard “Dick” Visser, 89, of Oskaloosa, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 26, 2015, while being cared for at the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born August 29, 1925, in Pella, the son of William and Cornelia Hols Visser.

Early in life Dick started working with his dad and brother in the coal mines in Mahaska County. He later worked at the old Carlon Concrete in Oskaloosa.

On December 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Chilcote at Oskaloosa. To this union three daughters were born: Kathy, Lois and Sheryl. Betty preceded Dick in death on July 20, 1995.

Dick worked for several years at Maytag Company in Newton, and retired from there in 1983.

On August 29, 1998, Dick was married to Geraldine Daniels McFall at the Good News Chapel in Oskaloosa.

Dick enjoyed working on cars, small engine repair, and camping in the buses he converted into campers. Dick loved his family most of all and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Good News Chapel.

His family includes his wife: Geraldine McFall Visser of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Lois (& Daniel) Nicholson of Beacon; three grandchildren: Amy (& Scott) Nichols, Angela (& Jason) Ballard and Eric (& Kendra) Nicholson; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lanphier of Port Orchard, Washington; two step daughters: Debra (& Michael) White of Granbury, Texas and Melinda Anderson of Golden, Colorado; two step grandchildren: Mike (& Katie) Garner and Kelsi (& Mark) Flores; and four step great grandchildren.

Besides his first wife, Dick was preceded in death of his parents; two daughters: Kathy Lynn Visser and Sheryl Hicks; three brothers: Cornealious “Case”, Martin and John Visser; three sisters: Geraldine Chambers, Hattie Garrels and Ellen Mason; and a step daughter: Donna Miller.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 30, 2015, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday morning after 11, and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday to greet friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Good News Chapel or the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House.
