Oskaloosa–A banged-up Statesmen wrestling team was winless in its own triangular Wednesday.

Kyle Soderblom (Sr., Newton, Iowa, Biology) won both of his matches, but few others had their hands raised on a night when #16 William Penn (2-3) fell to #11 Missouri Valley 31-17 and #1 Grand View 54-3.

The navy and gold were without the services of varsity grapplers Scottie Bonds (So., Chicago, Ill., Physical Education) and Ishmael Rempson (Sr., Olympia Fields, Ill., Industrial Technology), forcing WPU to forfeit at 141 and 184 pounds. They eventually forfeited to Grand View at 157 pounds as well.

The points that were given away were too much to overcome against Missouri Valley. The visiting Vikings (5-6) took those 12 points and added 19 more with five additional victories.

133-pounder Khalil Williams (Fr., Decatur, Ga., Physical Education) and 149-pounder Brad Watson (Jr., Rolla, Mo., Physical Education) kept the home squad in it early. Williams pinned his foe in 1:42, while Watson dominated for an 18-1 technical fall.

Soderblom then stepped up and earned another fall at 197 pounds to wrap up the wins in that dual.

Victories were much, much harder to come by against top-ranked Grand View (11-0). The Vikings proved why they are expected to again easily defend their NAIA national title as Soderblom was the lone victor. He defeated his opponent 7-1.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Pella next Saturday to compete in the Central Invitational. Action starts at 9 a.m.
