Oskaloosa–The Statesmen softball team figures to be strong opposition for its 2015 foes as the NAIA released its preseason poll Tuesday.

William Penn (36-20 last year) is ranked #29 in the nation with 49 points. It is the highest-ranked squad in the state as well as the highest from the Midwest Collegiate Conference (Grand View is tied for 39th).

Defending national champion Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) is at the top of the ranking with 498 points and all 18 first-place votes. William Carey (Miss.), Reinhardt (Ga.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), and Oklahoma City round out the top five.

The road to success this spring will be loaded with proverbial landmines as WPU is slated to face #1 AUM, #9 Saint Xavier (Ill.), #11 Belhaven (Miss.), #13 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), #16 Central Methodist (Mo.), and #24 South Carolina-Beaufort as well as three teams in the receiving votes section.

William Penn will begin 2015 in Alabama at the Mobile Tournament on March 6 and 7. The Statesmen will face Campbellsville (Ky.), Belhaven (Miss.), South Carolina-Beaufort, and Auburn Montgomery at the event.
