Evelyn Wanders, 71 of Montezuma, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Evelyn Amanda Wanders, was born on June 15, 1943, the daughter of Florence M. Moller and Paul D. Rice at Metropolis, IL.

Evelyn graduated from North Mahaska High School in 1960 and then attended A.I.B. in Des Moines. On May 19, 1961, Evelyn was united in marriage to Duane Lee Wanders at the Methodist Church in Barnes City. She was the mother of Teresa, Kenny and Debbie.

Evelyn helped on the farm, was a homemaker, worked at Ben Franklin, Federal Crop Insurance Corporation and Casey’s.

She loved to quilt, sew, can, and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to socialize with her friends, was very quick witted and preferred to stay close to home. She instilled in her family that they always came first and she will always be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a step father, Ollie McDowell; two brothers-in law, Ken Rourke and Gerald Van Houweling and a granddaughter, Tanya German.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Duane Wanders of Montezuma; a son, Kenny (& Marcy) Wanders of New Sharon; two daughters: Teresa (& Craig) Fawcett of Oskaloosa, and Debbie (& Jerry) Bullington of Runnells; two sisters: Mary Lee (& Rex) Seals of Cottage Grove, OR, and Martha Ann Rourke of Bend, OR; three sisters-in-law: Marge Van Houweling of Pella, Loretta (& Norman) Wehrle of Taintor, Dorothy (& Norman) Ver Ploeg of Leighton; a brother-in-law, Leroy (& Millie) Wanders of Oskaloosa; nine grandchildren: Tyler (& Jill) German of Lynnville, Alan (& Chrystal) Fawcett of Oskaloosa, Laura (& Corey) Van Kooten of Sully, Lindsey (& Matt) Rotert of West Liberty, Chelsea and Chet Bullington of Runnells, Tanner, Trent and Bailey Wanders of New Sharon; seven great grandchildren, with the eighth on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a step father, Ollie McDowell; two brothers-in law: Ken Rourke and Gerald Van Houweling; and a granddaughter, Tanya German.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 10:30 am at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 beginning at noon with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Burial will be in the Barnes City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Barnes City Fire Department or to the family.
