Richard C. Underwood, 83, of Ollie died Monday, January 19, 2015 at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born Monday, February 9, 1931 in Ainsworth, Iowa, the son of Milburn and Minnie Koehler Underwood.
Richard graduated from the Ollie High School in 1949. Following graduation, Richard joined the United States Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic from 1951 – 1955 with the 53rd Fighter Bomber Squadron. After his discharge, Richard returned to Ollie to farm the family farm.
On December 23, 1953, Richard was united in marriage to Beverly Weber at the Ollie Baptist Church. He continued to farm until his retirement in 1992.
Richard was a member of the Ollie Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, boating, fishing, tinkering with tractors, golfing and most of all his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca (& Allen) Wilcox of Carlisle; two sons: Bruce (& Joelle) Underwood of Woodruff, Wisconsin and Brent Underwood of Cupertino, California; four grandchildren: Megan Wilcox, Sarah (& Cory) Burnes, and Alec and Jared Underwood; three great grandchildren: Rylee, Kendrick and Zeppelyn; a brother, Donald (& Janice) Underwood of Coralville; a sister-in-law, Jonita Underwood of Ollie; a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene (& Phil) Morris of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a brother, Carl Underwood.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Ollie Baptist Church in Ollie with Pastor Gary Reeves officiating.
Burial will be in the Ollie Cemetery near Ollie.
Visitation will begin Thursday, January 22, 2015 after 12 noon in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont and the family will be at the funeral chapel Thursday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Richard Underwood Memorial Fund.
