Bonds, Rempson Win Titles at Central

Pella–It was a highly successful Saturday for the Statesmen wrestling team as it competed at the Central Under Armour Invitational.

Scottie Bonds (So., Chicago, Ill., Physical Education) took home the 141-pound championship, while Ishmael Rempson (Sr., Olympia Fields, Ill., Industrial Technology) was the title winner at 165 pounds. Both were 4-0 with Bonds pinning three foes, including Jake Marlin of North Iowa Area CC in 6:39 in the finals. Rempson, who had one fall and one major decision, held off NIACC’s Quincy Kalkbrenner 5-2 in his championship matchup.

William Penn also had a pair of high finishers at 149 and 165 pounds. Marshawn Lacy (Sr., Chicago Heights, Ill., Computer Science) and Lane Colwell (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Computer Science) each went 3-2 with one fall and one major decision at 149 pounds.

Brad Watson (Jr., Rolla, Mo., Physical Education) also finished 2-2 at 149 pounds (one fall), while Bryan Pittman (Sr., Flossmoor, Ill., Information Technology) had one ‘W’ with a major decision.

3-2 records came from 165-pounders Jeremy Walters (Jr., University Park, Ill., Exercise Science) and Johnny Hopper (Fr., Basehor, Kan., Psychology) as well. Walters managed two falls on the day.

Charlton Benjamin (Sr., Atlanta, Ga., Sociology), who was 2-2 (one fall), and Justin Van Est (Jr., Fruitland, Iowa, Sociology), who had one win, were also victorious.

Bryce Castagna (Fr., Willcox, Ariz., Digital Communication) owned a 2-2 mark at 125 pounds, while fellow 125-pounder Angel Villa (Fr., Deming, N.M., General Accounting) claimed a win.

Angelo Kelly (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Physical Education) only won once at 141 pounds (fall), but he also was the only grappler to force Bonds to wrestle an entire match.

Michael Corley (So., Atlanta, Ga., Sociology) won by major decision at 174 pounds and heavyweight Mark Gadson (Sr., Deerfield Beach, Fla., Physical Education) won once as well.

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Tuesday to host Graceland in dual meet action at 7 p.m.
