Oskaloosa, Iowa – Coming into Tuesday night’s home game against Dallas Center-Grimes, the Oskaloosa boys’ basketball team knew one thing, they were up against one of the top teams in the tough Little Hawkeye Conference. For three quarters the Indians hung with DCG. The bad news was, that the game was four quarters long.

Oskaloosa played hard, but turnovers and cold shooting doomed the Indians and they fell 58-46.

The game started out with Osky’s senior Ryan Reiter getting the Indians on the board with a 12 ft. jumper, putting Osky in the lead 2-0. However, that lead was short lived as DCG found success all night from the inside. The inside game punished the Indians as DCG made bucket after bucket in the paint. Oskaloosa really had no answer for stopping their big man.

DCG ran out to a 12-4 lead until sophomore Jack Moore hit a reverse jumper, then Reiter scored on a put back as Osky trailed at the end of the first quarter 14-8.

Moore was the majority of the offense on the night, as the sophomore tried to keep the Indians within striking distance. Oskaloosa was plagued by the turnover bug and both teams went cold from the field. Senior Ki-Jana DeJong hit junior Ethan Farner, cutting to the basket for a layup. DeJong then finished off the half with a basket and drew the foul to get the Indians to within 22-18 at the half.

Moore continued his big night, with several other Indians chipping in, to try and keep the Indians in it. The Indians got as close as 31-28. That is where the ball started to become slick to the Indians, turning the ball over several times.

DCG took advantage of it, seeming to score at will from the inside, as they started to extend the lead. Moore nailed a long three pointer as the quarter came to a close with Osky trailing 42-33.

In the fourth quarter it was Osky and Moore exchanging baskets, but it was too little too late as the Indians couldn’t get closer than 8 points. The Indians ended up falling to Dallas Center-Grimes 58-46.

Moore led the Indians with 20 pts. and 3 rebs., Reiter had 8 pts. and 6 rebs., DeJong had 5 pts., 6 rebs. and 2 asst.

The Indians are now 3-4 overall on the season and are in action Friday night against Newton at home.
