Naydene Smith passed away on December 31, 2014. Naydene, daughter of Theodore and Alice (Ashman) Perkins, was born September 1, 1926, in Beacon, Iowa.

Naydene’s family moved to Des Moines when her father started working for an ammunition plant. She was a 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School in Des Moines. Following her education she met Walter Smith and the two were married on October 15, 1944.

In 1947 they moved to Beacon to be closer to her family. Naydene was a homemaker and raised her children until 1961 when she took a job working at Ademeits, assisting in the post office. She eventually became the Post Master of the Beacon Post Office. Naydene retired in 1988.

Naydene enjoyed making crafts, camping, and traveling to Branson, MO, where she and Walter spent many summers. She loved spending time with her friends and family.

Her family includes her husband, Walter Smith; her children: Joe (& Nancy) Smith, Ted (& Linda) Smith, and Cynthia (& Ron) Barrett, all of Beacon, IA; her grandchildren: Jodi Smith of Washington state, Alicia Smith of Beacon, IA, Melissia (& Mark) Little of Oskaloosa, IA, Justin (& Heather) Smith of Beacon, IA, Brandon (& Wendi) Smith of New Sharon, IA and Eric (& Michaela) Barrett of Leighton, IA; Great-Grandchildren: Mark and Jeremy Jacobs, Katelyn and Jared Smith, Hayley Pinkerton, Nash Smith and Rayalin Russell, Morgan and Hali Barrett, MaKennah and Spencer Little; and one Great, Great-Grandson, Charlie Walter Jacobs.

In addition to her parents, Naydene was preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Joe Smith.

Funeral services for Naydene will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Roger White of the Beacon United Methodist Church officiating.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, January 5, at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
