E. Ione Hulbert, 95, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born October 24, 1919, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Leon and Blanche McFall Allbaugh.

Ione attended school in Mahaska County. On July 26, 1939, she was united in marriage to Cecil H. Hulbert in Oskaloosa. Cecil died November 29, 2002. During WWII, they lived in numerous Army locations throughout the United States and returned to Oskaloosa upon the ending of the war. Ione settled into the routine of starting a family, raising two sons.

Ione also worked for over 22 years at Super-Valu, first at Green’s Super-Valu and later at Easter’s Super-Valu, in Oskaloosa.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. She volunteered at various organizations including Mahaska County Hospital, First Christian Church Groups and American Legion Auxiliary Women’s Groups.

Ione enjoyed organizing and cooking for many large Family and Friends gatherings at her home or Edmundson Park. She also enjoyed belonging to various Pinochle Clubs, Western Dance Clubs and playing various card or board games.

Her family includes her two sons and their wives: Dale (& Rosalie) Hulbert of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Marvin (& Karen) Hulbert of Longmont, Colorado; five grandchildren: Brian Hulbert, Brett Hulbert, Jeff Hulbert, Tracie Grover and Ronni Porter; 8 great grandchildren: Bailey Hazelrigg, Annabelle, Victoria and Mason Hulbert, Cody and Dalton Hulbert, Avery and Adilyn Grover; one great great grandchild, Kenzley Tessa Hulbert; a brother Russell (& Carol) Allbaugh of Winfield, Iowa; five sisters: Shirley Bruggemeyer of Altoona, Evelyn Roberts of Colo, Iowa, Lucille (& Chuck) Allgood of Carrollton, Texas, Betty (& Alvin) McGee of O’Fallon, Illinois and Lois Sutherland of Winterset; a brother-in-law, Floyd (& Ethel) Hulbert of Truax; a sister-in-law, Gerri Hulbert of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Cecil, Ione was preceded in death by her parents; a great granddaughter, Tessa Kaylen Hulbert; and a brother, Clifford Allbaugh; a sister-in-law, Goldie Hulbert; four brothers-in-law: Willis Sutherland, Don Roberts, Ralph Bruggemeyer and Fred Hulbert.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Michael Omundson officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, January 7, 2015 after 11 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the family present at the funeral chapel Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Oskaloosa First Christian Church or to Hospice of Central Iowa.
