Christmas has come early for the Knoxville Police Department! On Friday December 19 a local long time Knoxville resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, with the help of his family provided funding for the department to purchase three new body cameras for officers to use.

The man’s family spoke with multiple police officers about the use of body cameras within the department. The man’s family told officers that their father is always looking for ways to help out local organizations and sees the use of body cameras for the police department as an important need for the community and for the officers. Officers provided the man’s family with information about the body cameras that the department would purchase if funding was available.

Later Friday the man’s family arrived back at the Knoxville Police Department with a check for the purchase of three new body cameras.

The Knoxville Police Department hopes to purchase the body cameras around the first of the year. The Department has been testing body cameras for some time. We have looked at four different models and have now selected one that we think is the best fit for the Department. The Department is also developing a policy for using the cameras that will provide maximum benefit while respecting personal rights of those filmed.

The Knoxville Police Department would like to thank the donor, who wishes to remain anonymous and his family for their donation. Your kindness and generosity is both inspiring and very much appreciated.
