Joyce M. Meinders, 73, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, December 11, 2014, in Washington, Iowa. Joyce was born May 3, 1941, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Ralph and Lillie Belle Vander Linden.

Joyce graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1959. On August 14, 1962, she was united in marriage to Henry J. Meinders in Oskaloosa. Henry died February 9, 2008. Early on Joyce worked at various places in Oskaloosa, and worked for many years at Bill and Ray’s Truck Repair before retiring. She enjoyed her time at Bill and Ray’s and especially enjoyed joking around with “the guys”.

Joyce attended First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed cross stitch and Hardanger embroidery. She also liked bowling, putting puzzles together and playing cards. She found great joy in baking and decorating cakes for birthdays and other special occasions. She and Henry also spent many hours volunteering at the Nelson Pioneer Farm.

Her family includes her sister, Ruthann Foster of Bondurant; three half-sisters: DeNelta Davis of Independence, Missouri, Regina Kavanaugh of Kansas City, Missouri and Kathy McPhil of Independence, Missouri; several nieces and nephews including: Wynne Veenstra, Keith Veenstra, Mike Veenstra, Brad Veenstra, Doug Veenstra, all of Pella, Brenda Allen of Bondurant and Karla Van Zant in Iowa.

In addition to her husband Henry, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Clayton Laughlin.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 15, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Dale Visser officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be held Monday afternoon from 1 until service time at 2:30.
Memorials may be made to the Nelson Pioneer Farm.
