Mando Oliver, 93, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Des Moines passed away, Sunday, December 7, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Mando was born, June 29, 1921, to Robert and Vittoria Oliver in Des Moines.

Mando graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. May 14, 1955, he married Erma Van Gorp. Mando was always known for being a hard worker and supporter of his family. He had many jobs including: postal carrier, courier for Brenton Banks and a school bus driver.

January 23, 1965, Mando was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. From that moment on it was very important to him to share what he had learned with everyone he met. He was extremely active in this work right up until his death. The preaching of the Good News of God’s Kingdom was his passion. His last wishes were that all his family and friends remain faithful and active so that they would be there to meet him in Paradise.

He is survived by his children: Robert (& Lana) Oliver of Sand Springs, OK, Cindy (& Sam) Brown of Des Moines, Diana (& Danny) Fryer of Oskaloosa, Michael (& Missy) Oliver of Des Moines; a brother, Robert of Des Moines; a sister, Helen (& Dave) Struthers of Hot Springs, AR. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, because he considered the spouses of the five that are married his also. He also has two special great-granddaughters. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Erma; his parents; brothers: Mike, Nello and Ralph; sisters: Josphine, Linda, Dina and Mary.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 13, at the Southern Hills Kingdom Hall located at 420 S.E. Watrous in Des Moines. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
