Knoxville Police Department Investigates Shooting
At about 7:36 pm on Wednesday October 22, 2014 Knoxville Police Officers were sent to an address on N. Roche St. in Knoxville for an unknown problem. When the first officer arrived that officer, Lt. Aaron Fuller, discovered that a shooting had possibly occurred at that location. Lt. Fuller requested Knoxville Fire and Rescue Department respond in case there was a victim at the scene.
At about the same time as the officer arrived on N. Roche, a call was received from the Knoxville Area Hospital Emergency Room reporting that a man had just arrived with an apparent gunshot wound. That man, a 28-year-old Knoxville resident was eventually transported by air to a Des Moines hospital for surgery related to the injury.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of Ricky Lee Hyatt, a 59-year-old Knoxville resident on the charge of Willful Injury, a Class C felony. Mr. Hyatt was transported to the Marion County Jail pending a court appearance.
The investigation into this incident is continuing.
Marion County Sheriff Deputies, the Marion County Attorney’s Office, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force all provided assistance to this investigation. The Knoxville Fire and Rescue Department also responded and assisted at the initial scene.
The Knoxville Police Department wants to remind everyone that a criminal charge is merely an accusation and a person charged with a criminal offense is innocent until proven guilty by a court.
