MAHASKA COUNTY –Dorothy Vos of Oskaloosa was named Mahaska Health Partnership’s 2014 Hospital Auxiliary member and Volunteer Shining Star by the Iowa Hospital Association.

Vos has been an active member of the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital Auxiliary since 1997. She has volunteered countless hours in the Gift Shop and was appointed manager in 2004. With the relocation of Whispering Tree Gifts to MHP’s new patient care wing, Vos devoted a large amount of time to both the move and expansion of products available to MHP visitors.

“Dorothy truly deserves the recognition for her outstanding contributions to Iowa’s healthcare system throughout the years,” MHP Volunteer Coordinator Kim Langfitt explained. “She worked as a nurse in Mahaska County for a total of 54 years, with 16 of those devoted to MHP’s Inpatient Services. After retiring, she returned to MHP as a volunteer in the Gift Shop. Dorothy has poured her heart and soul into customer satisfaction and patient care.”

According to Langfitt, Vos has helped grow Whispering Tree Gifts into a huge success, providing unique gifts and flower arrangements for patients and visitors. One of her most recent contributions includes choosing Halo Sleep Sacks to purchase through the Hospital Auxiliary for every baby born at MHP, free of charge.

“We are fortunate to have individuals like Dorothy who continually devote their time to making our patients and visitors feel at home,” Langfitt said.
