Statesmen Fifth at Columbia Tourney
Columbia, Mo.–The William Penn men’s golf team had a solid showing at the Columbia Cougar Classic Monday and Tuesday.
The Statesmen placed fifth out of seven teams with a score of 616 (306-310) at the par-71 Columbia Country Club, while William Woods (Mo.) JV won the event at 596. WPU improved 34 shots from last year’s performance at the same course (326-324–650).
David Long of Missouri Baptist won the medalist honor in the 44-person event at two-under-par 140 (69-71).
Gareth Sargent (Fr., Knysna, South Africa, Psychology) was right in the thick of things with a one-under 70 on the first day, but ended up finishing in a tie for sixth at 147 (70-77).
Frederik Lundsgaard (Fr., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) also had a top-20 outing, tying for 17th at 153 (73-80), while Brandon Dizon (So., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology) moved up the standings on the second day, tying for 21st at 155 (82-73).
Jeremy Swink (Sr., Burlington, Iowa, Physical Education) carded a pair of 81’s for a 162 (T-33rd), and Byron Lindeque (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, General Accounting) rounded out the varsity scoring at 170 (80-90) to place 41st.
