The Marching Pride of Oskaloosa takes the field in competition

The Oskaloosa Marching Pride came out of the gate strong during their first weekend in competition. Their first competition of the season started at the Lin-Mar Marching Invitational in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, September 27, 2014. The band finished 4th out of 10 bands with a score of 72.0. Competition at the 3A level is tight this year—the third place band, Marion, finished just ahead of Oskaloosa with a score of 74.9.

The Marching Pride then traveled to the Marching Dutch Invitational in Pella. The band finished 3rd out of eight bands in Class 3A. Tight competition in the bands continued as the difference between first and third in their class was only 1.8 points. Oskaloosa topped three Class 4A bands at Pella to come in 6th place overall.

The show for the 2014 Marching Pride is titled “Fantasia and Beyond.” The music includes: Choral and Alleluia by Howard Hanson, Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens, Venus by Gustav Holst and Firebird by Igor Stravinsky. Staff this year includes: Rich Waddington, Director of Bands, Rusty Raymond, Middle School/High School Bands, Michelle Dickinson, Elementary/Middle School Bands and Color Guard, Phil Kamm and Doug Hiratzka Percussion Instructors. The music for “Fantasia and Beyond” was arranged by Rich Waddington, the drill was done by Rusty Raymond and the color guard routine was done by Michelle Dickinson and Amanda Brinck.

The Marching Pride travels for another double competition weekend on October 4th where they will compete at the 5 Seasons Marching Invitational and Bands Across the Prairie in Cedar Rapids.
