Letter To The Editor: Works hard to keep our meetings and deliberations public

Editors Note: The views and opinions expressed in this editorial are not necessarily the views or opinions of Oskaloosa News.

In a recent opinion piece Frank Glandon says the Oskaloosa City Council is contemplating giving $100,000 and $200,000 gifts to several entities. While the council is routinely approached for funding of various activities, it is never a gift. The policy is to fund activities through contractual (called 28E) agreements where a nonprofit entity is funded in exchange for providing essential services.

He further states that to pay for gifts there is a plan to cut or not replace retiring public safety employees. It is unfortunate that he did not research this assertion with city staff or name his source of information before publishing because it is false. No such plan exists.

The Oskaloosa City Council works hard to keep our meetings and deliberations public and welcome the opinions of anyone interested in our actions. Please visit the city website at www.oskaloosaiowa.org for information on what is happening in the city. You can also find council member email addresses if you want to email them directly.
