Bronze to Statesmen at Simpson Tourney

Indianola–The fall season continued Wednesday for the William Penn men’s golf team and the squad had their best finish yet by taking third at the Simpson Invitational.

The Statesmen placed third out of eight teams with a score of 308 at the par-71 Indianola Country Club, while host Simpson recorded the team win with a 289.

Simpson’s Trent Lindenman won the event, shooting the lone round under par at 68 (-3). Gareth Sargent (Fr., Knysna, South Africa, Psychology) was not far behind, tying for fourth at 73.

Fellow freshman Frederik Lundsgaard (Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) just fell outside the top ten (50 players in the field), placing 12th with a 76.

Brandon Dizon (So., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology) also broke the 80 barrier with a 79 to tie for 18th, while Jeremy White (So., Baytown, Texas, Mechanical Engineering) and Byron Lindeque (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, General Accounting) wrapped up the varsity scoring in a tie for 24th with identical scores of 80.

WPU’s second team–‘Blue’–was also in competition and Jeremy Swink (Sr., Burlington, Iowa, Physical Education) with his 75 (T-8th) led the squad to fifth at 317.

Charlie Hayes (So., Whitesboro, Texas, History/Government), with an 80, Justin Bothma (Fr., Boksburg, South Africa, Business Management) and Terence Schafer (Jr., Solwezi, Zambia, Industrial Technology), each with 81’s (T-28th), and Kyle Hashimoto (So., Acampo, Calif., Undecided), with an 82 (T-33rd), rounded out the Blue group’s scoring.

Cade Hartman (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev., Business Management) also carded an 82, while Patric Benson (Fr., Tripoli, Iowa, Sociology) finished with an 89 (T-47th) as they participated as individuals.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Columbia, Mo. next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Columbia Classic. Action will be held at Columbia Country Club.
