Marshall, Mo.–The Statesmen women’s soccer team had few answers for Missouri Valley in an 8-0 non-conference loss Tuesday.

William Penn (3-5-1) was outshot 24-3 and permitted four goals in both the first and second half to the Vikings (6-1-1) who are unofficially 27th in the NAIA. Three separate Statesmen finished with one shot, while starting goalkeeper Kelly Button (Sr., Tucson, Ariz., Business Management) finished with five saves and backup Autumn Whitehorse (Fr., Page, Ariz., Exercise Science) had one stop.

“This was quite a shocking result given how well we have played against other teams this season,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “Unfortunately, we ran into a very good side who took full advantage of the many mistakes we made. Their movement, desire, and technical ability outshone ours today and they fully deserved to win in this manner.”

“We need to sit down, watch game film, and start holding players accountable more so the same mistakes are not being made,” McGowan added. “We did suffer due to injury before the game and through the game, but ultimately, they wanted it more.”

Next Up: William Penn opens Midwest Collegiate Conference play next Wednesday by hosting Grand View at 5 p.m.
