Oskaloosa–A big advantage was unfortunately not finished off Tuesday as the Statesmen volleyball team fell 3-2 to Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) in non-conference play.

William Penn (2-15) lost by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 14-25, 4-15. The hosts were outhit .169-.028.

The first two sets were close battles with WPU never trailing by more three points, but also never leading by more than six. The third set was also tight early on, but a five-point run by the Trojans (2-16) put WPU on its heels and it never recovered.

The navy and gold posted the first two points of the fourth set, but things again went south quickly and the fifth set was equally forgettable as H-LG finished off the comeback.

Shawni Wills (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology) managed nine kills, while Kayce Skocko (Jr., Watsonville, Calif., Business Management) and Kylie Giger (Jr., Elkhart, Ind., Exercise Science) contributed eight winners apiece.

Leyra Jusino (Jr., Bayamon, P.R., General Biology) tallied 26 assists and two aces. Danielle Breeher (Jr., St. Louis, Mo., Undecided) had 19 digs and Erika Getz (Jr., Parsons, Kan., Physical Education) blocked two attempts (one solo, one assist).

Next Up: William Penn remains at home Friday to host Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in non-conference play at 7 p.m.
