PELLA — Central College back Liz Daniels (senior, Oconomowoc, Wis.) was tabbed as the Iowa Conference women’s soccer defensive player of the week Monday.

Daniels helped the Dutch pitch two shutouts last week en route to one win and one tie. Last Tuesday, Central defeated Grinnell 1-0 on a late second period goal by Brittany Hinton (senior, Davenport, West HS). Saturday the Dutch held previously unblemished Hamline (Minn.) to a scoreless draw after two overtimes in St. Paul.

Daniels has started nearly every game for the Dutch since arriving on campus. She was named the team’s outstanding freshman in 2011. During her career, the Dutch have achieved a record of 38-21-6, including this year’s 3-2-1 start. Daniels has also contributed on the offensive end with eight career goals, including two September 5 at Maranatha Baptist (Wis.).

This is Daniels’ second player of the week award, first being cited Oct. 29, 2012. A team co-captain who received all-conference honorable mention in 2012, Daniels is also a two-time academic all-league honoree.

Central returns to action Tuesday at Nebraska Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
