Bill L. Briney, 78, of Oskaloosa passed away Monday, September 15, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Bill Levern Briney, son of James Nash and Louisa Jane (Quaintance) Briney, was born, April 9, 1936, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Bill was raised on his parent’s farm near Lacey and attended Lacey schools. He was a 1954 graduate of Lacey High School.

Bill farmed with his father for three years following his education, then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served state-side, working as an auto mechanic for the three years and three months of his service. Upon his discharge in February 1962, he got a job at Anders Motors. He later purchased the business and renamed it Briney Motors. He owned and operated the business for many years, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed his retirement for five years before starting a new career with his daughter and son-in-law in quality control and inspection at Plate Electronics.

Bill married the love-of-his-life, Karen Kay Knowler, October 11, 1959, at the New Sharon United Methodist Church. They made their home in Oskaloosa, where they raised their four daughters. Bill loved engines, the mechanics of them, and riding motorcycles. His hobbies were collecting and working on gas engines and repairing magnetos for gas engines. Bill attended Calvary Bible Church for many years.

His family includes his wife, Karen of Oskaloosa; daughters: Debra (& Ken) De Boef of Leighton, Teresa (& Cathy Comley) Briney of Wichita, KS, Toni (& Chuck) Hull of Adel, IA and Shari (& Craig) Plate of New Sharon, IA; six grandchildren: Nichole Montavon of Oskaloosa, Shawn (& Tiffany) De Boef of Grimes, Tyler long of New Sharon, Alexis Long of New Sharon, Faith Hull of Adel and C.J. Hull of Adel; and five great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sheryl Current.

Funeral services for Bill will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 18, 2014, at the Calvary Bible Church in Oskaloosa, with Pastor Doug Smiley officiating.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday evening.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Bible Church.
