Orange City–Down a pair of first-half scores, the Statesmen men’s soccer team did not wave the proverbial white flag but unfortunately could not finish the rally in a 3-2 non-league loss to Northwestern Saturday.

Outshot 17-12 (9-4 in the first period), WPU (4-2) fell behind 2-0 as the Red Raiders (4-1-1) tallied two scores in the 37th minute.

Angelo Kelly (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Physical Education) had a quick answer in the next minute, though, with a goal off a pass from JeanClaude Ninganza (Sr., Memphis, Tenn., Sociology).

Milo Bruce-Burgess (Sr., Brockenhurst, England, Physical Education) then knotted the contest at 80:02 with a penalty kick conversion.

The hosts had the last laugh in the end as they managed the eventual game winner only 1:06 after Bruce-Burgess. Mason Bandy (Sr., Calgary, Alberta, Biology) saved five attempts in the first half, while Pedro Pereira (So., Sao Paolo, Brazil, Communications) added three after intermission.

Next Up: William Penn returns home Wednesday to host Avila (Mo.) in non-conference play at 7 p.m.
