Storm Lake–Less than 24 hours after going the distance with one Iowa Conference program, the Statesmen volleyball team had a rough outing against another IIAC foe in being swept 3-0 by Buena Vista Tuesday.

William Penn (2-9) lost by scores of 12-25, 15-25, 19-25. The navy and gold played five sets Monday last night and then had to jump on the bus for the lengthy trip up to the northwestern part of the state this afternoon, so fatigue could easily be a culprit for the team’s disappointing showing against the Beavers (5-6).

Kylie Giger (Jr., Elkhart, Ind., Exercise Science) had a great performance, but she could not single-handedly lead WPU to the victory. The junior managed a double-double with 12 kills (.360 attack pct.) and 15 digs–both team highs. The visitors were outhit .347-.074.

Kayce Skocko (Jr., Watsonville, Calif., Business Management) added seven kills, while Leyra Jusino (Jr., Bayamon, P.R., General Biology) assisted 23 times and Ana Gutch (Sr., Eddyville, Iowa, Secondary Education) posted three blocks (one solo, two assists).

Next Up: William Penn travels to Clinton Friday and Saturday to compete in the Ashford Tournament. On Friday, the Statesmen face host Ashford at 3:30 p.m. and Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) at 5:30 p.m. Friday’s results will determine who WPU meets in its two matches on Saturday.
