Central wins men’s golf crown in Title Town

GREEN BAY —Carding a sizzling final-round 297, the Central College men’s golf team rolled to a 15-shot victory in the six-team Wis.-Green Bay Invitational.

Desmond Stoll (senior, Lockport, N.Y.) came from behind and captured medalist honors by a comfortable 5-shot margin with 73-68-73—214 on the par-72 Green Bay Country Club.

The Dutch, the lone Division III team in the field, finished at 303-300-297—902 to outdistance Chicago State, which shot 316-304-297—917. Wis.-Green Bay followed at 318-307-297—917.

David Watson (senior, San Diego, Calif., Patrick Henry HS) followed Stoll at 77-77-73-227, Adam Squires (senior, Waterloo, Columbus HS) shot 75-82-74—231, Clayton Curwin (senior, Faribault, Minn., Shattuck St. Mary’s HS) had 82-75-79–236 and Jon Prescott (senior, Mendota, Ill.) shot 78-80-79–237.

Central makes the trek back to Wisconsin Sept. 21-22 for the Wis.-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational, which will feature some top Division III competition.

White team third at the Preserve—Central’s second and third units, the White and Black squads, were in action at the Midwest Collegiate Invitational at the par-72 Preserve in the Honey Creek Resort near Moravia. The White team was third at 300-311—611. Huntingdon (Ind.) took first at 298-308—606. The Black squad was eighth at 322-314—636 in the nine-team tourney.

Walker Adams (junior, Osceola, Clarke HS) was second at 70-74—144, three shots behind the tourney medalist. Trevor Schweinefus (freshman, Calmar) of the Black team tied for third at 71-75—146.
