William Lee McCombs, 69, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella. He was born January 13, 1945, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Glenn and Dorothy Brown McCombs.

Early on he worked construction. In 1968 he entered the United States Army. He received his honorable discharge in 1970. On January 30, 1970, he was united in marriage to Marcia Houk in Oskaloosa.

Bill worked for Vermeer in Pella for 29 years, he retired from there as a Class A Welder.

He enjoyed fishing and camping. He also enjoyed tinkering in the garage working on various projects. He was very mechanical and enjoyed building and repairing. He delighted in spending time with his family.

His family includes his wife of over 44 years, Marcia McCombs of Oskaloosa; six children: Billy McCombs of New Sharon, Jaron (& Jennifer) McCombs of Oskaloosa, Tom McCombs (& Wendy Porter) of Oskaloosa, Ted McCombs of Oskaloosa, Patti (& James) Nickles of Missouri, Laura (& Tony) DeJong of Oskaloosa and Jeff Janes of Florida; 31 grandchildren: Patti’s children:Nicole, Jeremey, Samantha, James, Dillon, Emily; Billy’s children: Greg, Ashley, Krissy; Laura’s children: Ki, Alex, Tucker, Jake; Jaron’s children: Audrey, Tony, Justin, Jennifer, Caydence; Ted’s children: Mark, Tyler, Dustin, Justin, Brandon; Tom’s children: Heaven, Steven, Savanna, Matthew, Sidney, Sara, Shawna, Brandon; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers: Jerry (& Jona) Muceus of Manzanita, Oregon and Richard (& Jeannie) McCombs of Oskaloosa; two sisters: Darlene (& Kenneth) DeHaan of Pella and Diana (& Jake) Azlin of Albia; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jerry and Donald McCombs.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with Frank Mick officiating.
Burial will be at the Beacon Cemetery in Beacon.
Graveside military rites will be given by the members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 11 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 5 – 8 P.M. Thursday to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Pella Hospice.
