Joyce Ann Rose, 64, of Montezuma passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Joyce was born on July 7, 1950 to Harley Dale Rose, Sr., and Beatrice Walden Rose at What Cheer, Iowa.
Joyce graduated in 1969 from Montezuma Community Schools. She then attended nursing school at St. Joseph’s in Ottumwa. Joyce worked at the Grinnell Hospital as a nurse’s aide, at Grinnell College in housekeeping, 23 years at DeLong’s Sportswear in Grinnell and at Casey’s making pastries, until she became ill.
Joyce was shy, quiet, kind and observant and loved her family and, especially, her nieces and nephews. She took care of her parents in their later years and loved to collect angels.
She is survived by her sisters Martha Hicks of Grinnell, Diana (Roger) Gregson of Montezuma and her brother Harley Dale Rose, Jr. (Nancy) of Oskaloosa; several nieces and nephews as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Elizabeth Rose, her brother-in-law Gary Hicks and her nephew Gary “Bill” Hicks, Jr.
A private family service will be held at a later date in the Jackson Township Cemetery at Montezuma.
