Dennis VanVark, 60, of Montezuma passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Dennis Eugene VanVark was born on March 5, 1954 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Donald and Grace VanVark.

Denny graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1972. He then began his hitch hiking adventure across the United States and returned to Iowa and began his work career with Manatt’s. He held several jobs at Manatt’s before he became the Saw Foreman of concrete. Denny worked at Manatt’s from 1972 until his health forced him to retire in 2011.

Denny met the love of his life, Patty Whitehead, in 1993 and they were married on October 13, 2007. He enjoyed woodworking in his garage, pool, playing Pepper, watching his favorite show, The Walking Dead on TV, and visiting with his friends at local bars. One of the last things that Denny got to enjoy was watching the water tower in Montezuma being painted. He loved his family and cherished his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Patty VanVark of Montezuma, his children: Scott (& Kim) Whitehead of Cedar Rapids, and Melissa (& Randy) Vinton of Montezuma; his grandchildren: Ashley Vinton, Jessica Peterson and Nichole Skaggs; his brothers: Dave (& Sheila) VanVark of Knoxville and Doug (& Connie) VanVark of Leighton, a sister-in-law, Barb (& Harold) Wheaton of Clive, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Denny is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Grace VanVark.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home beginning at 12:00 pm with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
As his wish, no funeral service will be held and his body will be cremated after the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John Stoddard Cancer Center.
